The Zamana Named the 2016 Tree of the Year

Martinique’s stunning Zamana tree has won the People’s Choice Award in France’s 2016 Arbre de l’année (Tree of the Year) competition organized by Terre sauvage magazine and the Office national des forêts (ONF). Measuring more than eight feet around, the beautiful three-century-old tree sits on Habitation Céron.

A former sugarcane plantation, Habitation Céron is now an eco-friendly tourist site with hiking trails that wind through its gorgeous gardens. A testament to the island’s remarkable history, the sugar and cassava refinery ruins are still standing. Nestled among Martinique’s majestic mountains, black volcanic sand beaches, and rivers, the Le Prêcheur estate borders the Integral Biological Reserve.
