Before becoming a model, Melodie dreamed of a career as a designer.
Deeply interested in fashion, in a January 2011 interview with Vogue Italia she named John Galliano, Zac Posen, Tom Ford, and Marc Jacobs as her favorite designers.
Melodie recently became the Tourism Ambassador of her native island : Martinique, working hand to hand with the Matinique Tourism Authority to promote the destination all around the world.
According to Melodie, using her digital plateforms to promote Martinique, is something she has already been doing for a long time and it was only natural for her to partner with Martinique's Tourism Institutions in order to support her island's touristic development.
Melodie's tips for great vacations in Martinique
How does it feel to be named Martinique Tourism Ambassador ?
Its really a honor for me to be able to represent Martinique Tourism in such official manners. I felt as I been an unofficial ambassador for years so for the committee to trust me to carry on with this collaboration is truly a delight .
Why is it important to you to promote your island ?
I think for me it was important to give back and feel close to my community. After being in the US for almost 10 years. I felt the need to try to give as much visibility as possible to my Island and show how much it has to offer .
What is your favorite thing to do when you are in Martinique ?
I am very family oriented. I like to spend time with all my family members at the beach. We eat , catch up , I get to play with my many nephews and get a nice tan at the same time !
What do you always bring back after a trip to Martinique ?
Hot sauce and rum ! All of my friends are obsessed with the homemade hot sauce that I have at home so each time I am back home, I try to bring a couple of bottles as gifts. Same thing for rum , its always a very appreciated present when showing up to a house party.
What is your favorite traditional dish ?
I love a good pork stew ! Like the traditional dish we make for Christmas. My dad makes the best one. I am also a fan of dombre de crevettes with sides or white rice and beans of course !
What is the one thing you wish everybody knew about Martinique ?
I wished everyone knew about the richness or its landscapes. We have a lot of diversity on one land and a lot to explore. I also think we have warm and extremely festive culture that loves to celebrate life at any given occasion. And that is probably one of my favorite thing about being From Martinique !
